Asia Contemporary Art Show keeps growing
Hong Kong’s art scene is ever growing, evidenced by a spike in attendees at this fall’s Asia Contemporary Art Show.
More than 11,000 art collectors and enthusiasts – marking a 7 percent increase from the spring 2016 event – perused through diverse works hailing from countries across the continent. An exit survey showed that art sales also jumped to about HK$25 million, a new record. Edition works and sculptures proved especially popular.
Held at the Conrad Hong Kong, this was the art show’s ninth year.

“We are delighted with the fall edition of the show, now by far the largest and longest-running art fair in Hong Kong in the second half of the year,” said Director Mark Saunderson. “Each event goes from strength to strength as we build our brand and buyer database – we have a loyal following of collectors and art buyers who come to the show in spring and fall, and each time we welcome a new group of younger collectors and art enthusiasts.”
In addition to Asian artworks, pieces from Australia, Italy, France, Germany, North and South America, and other countries were also sold.
Lithuanian artist Ala Leresteux said Hong Kong buyers are particularly inquisitive.
Leresteux said: “I have exhibited in many European countries, but it is my first time exhibiting at a Hong Kong art fair. The people here are so curious, they ask really profound and probing questions about my art.”
The 10th edition of the show will be held at the Conrad from March 17 to 20, 2017, coinciding with the beginning of Hong Kong Art Week.
