<p>Always guaranteed to attract watch enthusiasts and industry players from around the world, the 43rd Hong Kong Watch &amp; Clock Fair, together with the  12th Salon de TIME, will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center (HKCEC) from 3-7 September 2024.</p>

Centred around the theme &#8220;Be on Time&#8221;, the fairs present an extensive selection of premium watches across various categories &#8211; from luxury and high-fashion designs to technologically-advanced and sustainable models. The diverse lineup also includes collaborative branded timepieces, limited editions, customised watches, and creations by independent watchmakers, offering buyers a dynamic and comprehensive sourcing experience.</p>

<p>To promote exchange in local watch and clock design as well as fostering creativity, the HKTDC, Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Associations Ltd. and The Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades &amp; Industries Ltd. have jointly organised the 41st Hong Kong Watch &amp; Clock Design Competition again this year.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Student and Open groups</h3>



<p>Under the theme of “Talent Moment” for the student group and “Go Beyond Innovation” for the open group, winners will be announced at the fair and winning pieces will be displayed during the fair at Hall 1 Concourse. Newly introduced this year is the “The Made-to-Sell Award” which will be presented to the student group entry demonstrating exceptional marketability. The winning entry will be manufactured under guidance of the Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd and will be officially launched in the retail market at HKTDC Design Gallery.</p>

<p>Certain to attract watch enthusiasts and industry players from around the world, the 42nd HKTDC Hong Kong Watch &amp; Clock Fair and 11th Salon de TE commence in early September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Organisers are bringing new elements and themes to this year’s gathering.</p>

<p>The parallel events are jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd. and The Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades and Industries Ltd. More than 700 global exhibitors from 17 countries and regions are anticipated.</p>

<p>Under the EXHIBITION+ hybrid mode, the physical fair will run from 5 to 9 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Salon de TE will open its doors to both industry buyers and the public on the final two days (8 and 9 September). From 29 August to 16 September, exhibitors and buyers from across the world can engage in online and offline meetings through the AI-powered Click2Match smart business-matching platform.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Globally significant fair</h3>



<p>According to Sophia Chong, HKTDC Deputy Executive Director, the globally renowned Hong Kong Watch &amp; Clock Fair has consistently served as an effective platform for the industry to secure orders and establish business connections. This is especially the case given the fact that Hong Kong remains the world’s largest wristwatch import market and the second-largest wristwatch export market, following Switzerland, she highlighted.</p>

<p>Chong also pointed out that the Hong Kong Watch &amp; Clock Fair exhibits are more diversified this year to serve changing industry needs. “This year also welcomes a first-time exhibitor from Greece and Dubai, and will feature Guangdong, Guangzhou and Taiwan pavilions, hoping to create business opportunities for the industry,” she said.</p>

<p>The Hong Kong Watch &amp; Clock Fair includes several key zones. The Pageant of Eternity zone showcases OEM and ODM high-end complete watches. Other product zones cover clocks, machinery and equipment, parts and components, packaging, and trade services.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Five themes at Salon de TE</h3>



<p>Salon de TE, dedicated to showcasing internationally renowned watch brands, will feature five thematic zones: World Brand Piazza, Chic &amp; Trendy, Craft Treasure, Renaissance Moment, and Wearable Tech. These zones will present more than 130 prominent watch brands and designer collections from France, Switzerland, Italy, the United States and more.</p>

<p>The debut Guo Chao theme welcomes several remarkable mainland independent watchmakers and watch designs. They will showcase timepieces that intricately blend Chinese cultural elements. Ma XuShu, an independent watchmaker from Mainland China, will present his masterpiece Starry Night wristwatch. Another watchmaker Wei Guang Wen will showcase Guangzhou clocks, a timepiece of historical, cultural and artistic value.</p>

<p>Swiss Independent Watchmaking Pavilion (SIWP) and Francéclat are returning this year, together with a debut by the International Luxury Group, presenting a range of Swiss and international watch brands.</p>



<p>Sponsored by Prince Jewellery &amp; Watch for the 13th consecutive year, the World Brand Piazza zone remains a fair highlight. This year it will feature a lineup of 10 international watch brands and will showcase an exclusive selection of luxurious and rare timepieces.</p>

<p>The Wearable tech zone this year has tripled its exhibiting area compared to 2019, displaying a series of smartwatches and the latest technology brands, including Microwear, DTNO.1, DO and MYZI etc.</p>

<p>Other international timepiece brands will present wristwatches of different styles and personalities. This includes a limited-edition Mermaid Tourbillon by Hong Kong brand Memorigin, with just 100 pieces worldwide. First-time exhibitor King-Wear from Mainland China will feature one-touch Bluetooth pairing for calls, built-in music and video playback, body identification sensors and more than 100 sports modes. Young watchmaker Ricky (see below), cultivated by Hong Kong brand ANPASSA, has made his own tourbillon, a creative work described as a 15-year-old dream.</p>

<p>In addition to EXHIBITION+, the fair will also launch the Scan2Match function, which brings communication from offline to online. Buyers can use the HKTDC Marketplace app to scan exhibitors’ QR codes during the exhibition period, bookmark their favourite exhibitors, browse product information and the e-Floor plan, and continue to chat with exhibitors online during or after the exhibition period, extending their sourcing journey.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Seminars</h3>



<p>Forums, seminars, watch parades and networking events will provide first-hand market information. At the Hong Kong International Watch Forum on 5 September will discuss the global trade situation and industry trends.</p>

<p>Global market research agency Euromonitor International will discuss sustainable watch design development around this year&#8217;s theme “Shaping the Future Watch: The Next Design Trends” at the Asian Watch Conference on 6 September.</p>

<p>On the same day, Noel Wong, a watch collector, and William Bai, a watch culture expert and founder of Watch Traveler, will discuss affordable luxury watch prospects, a hot topic among celebrities.</p>

<p>To cultivate a new generation of watch designers and technical talents and promote the innovation and development of watch design, the HKTDC, Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd and Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades &amp; Industries Ltd have jointly organised the 40th Hong Kong Watch &amp; Clock Design Competition.</p>

<p>The competition has two categories – The Beauty of Perspective for the Open Group and Game Code for the Student Group. Artist Jessica Hsuan was invited as a guest judge this year. Award-winning works and finalists will be exhibited during the Watch &amp; Clock Fair, and the award ceremony will be held on 9 September at the Infinite Galaxy in Hall 3FG of the fairground.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Events, lucky draws, shopping discounts</h3>



<p>Activities at Salon de TE (open to the public aged 12 and above) will include watch parades, watch and painting demonstrations, embroidery watch crafts, product launches and more. Visitors can participate in lucky draws, with prizes including luxury watches, fashion accessories, dining vouchers and more. They can also join Smart Bidding to bid on their desired watches starting at as much as 90% off the retail price. Some exhibits will be available for on-the-spot sale.</p>

<p>Get ready to be swept away in a whirlwind of fashion, glamour and beauty this September as Centrestage prepares to make landfall in Hong Kong this September. Running from 4 to 7 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, this four-day marathon will see over 240 brands showcase their latest collections in over 40 fashion shows, contests and special showcases.</p>

Fashion fever to hit Hong Kong as Centrestage returns in September

<p>If you&#8217;re a fan of fine jewellery, you&#8217;re surely in for a treat next week as the world&#8217;s largest jewellery show returns to our city courtesy of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). Comprising two concurrent events, over 4,600 exhibitors from 48 countries will be displaying their precious goods, allowing local <em>haute joaillerie </em>aficionados an intimate glimpse at some of the most stunning precious gemstones and jewellery in the world.</p>

<p>Furthermore, this year the HKTDC has announced that Japan will be honoured as the joint event&#8217;s first-ever partner country, giving the adoring public a glimpse at the island nation&#8217;s truly magnificent pearls.</p>
<p>In addition to the exotic jewellery designs on display, the two shows will also play host to a series of specialised talks and forums on pertinent industry topics such as latest market trends, breaking production technologies and the rise of mobile commerce.</p>

<p>Underlining the importance of the world&#8217;s largest jewellery show, Benjamin Chau, HKTDC&#8217;s Acting Director, said at a press conference on Tuesday: &#8220;More than 8,200 companies from 75 countries and regions will visit the shows this year. This will help the industry expand into emerging markets and deal with the unstable global economy.&#8221;</p>

It’s once again time for Hong Kong’s most awe-inspiring fireworks display of the year, with its spectacular aerial pyrotechnics this time marking the dawn of The Year of The Pig. For 2019, the skies above Victoria Harbour are expected to be ablaze for a very precise 23 minutes, which is more than enough time to stand, gaze and point in wonder at this most traditional display of Chinese pageantry. As ever, though, the performance will transport audiences back to the world of New York high society back in the Roaring ’20s, where this glamorous tale of abundance, excess and dark romance will beguilingly play out. February Events in Hong Kong: A round-up of this month’s must-see events

<p>If the watch lover in your life was a little more on edge than normal last month, it could just be that they were a trifle agog at the prospect of HKTDC&#8217;s Salon de TE winding its way back into town. Such anticipation would be entirely understandable given that this sixth iteration of Hong Kong’s premier showcase for all things haute horological welcomed 140 of the world’s leading watch brands, all keen to parade their wares across the event’s four-day run.</p>

<p>For 2018, the Salon de TE showfloor was divided into four themed zones – Chic &amp; Trendy, Renaissance Moment, Wearable Tech and, the centrepiece of the entire event, the World Brand Piazza, with the latter once again sponsored by Prince Jewellery &amp; Watch. It was the Piazza, of course, that was the first port of call for all the most clued-up chronophiles.</p>

<p>One of the first things likely to have caught their eye was the <em>Grande Seconde Tribute</em>, <u><a href="https://www.jaquet-droz.com/">Jaquet Droz’s</a></u> ode to minimalism and classical design. In a knowing nod to one of the marque’s classic pocket watches of yesteryear, its hour-and-minute dial encompasses the upper half of its Grand Feu enamel fascia, while a larger seconds counter dwells below. Available in a limited edition of just 88 pieces, this is a future collectors’ item in waiting.</p>

<p>Another marked move towards minimalism at Salon de TE came courtesy of <u><a href="https://www.glashuette-original.com/homepage">Glashütte Original</a></u> in the form of its newly-available <em>Senator Cosmopolite</em>. With a diameter of 44mm, it’s not a small watch. Yet, despite the expansive acreage, its matte white dial remains engagingly uncomplicated, while still being home to an intriguing combination of complications. The most engaging of these is, arguably, its facility to gauge your transit duration across 36 individual time zones.</p>

<p>Less jet-setting and more maritimely was <u><a href="http://www.juvenia.ch/juvenia_english/Manufacture_english.html">Juvenia’s</a></u> latest retooling of <em>The Sextant</em>, a timepiece that made its global debut back in the 1940s. The latest incarnation of this most iconic of watches sees it upsized from 34mm to 40mm and housed in an eye-catching rose gold case. As ever, its most endearing aspect remains its miniaturised dial-mounted sextant, cunningly reinvented as bespoke hour, minute and second hands.</p>

<p>Salon de TE was also notable for the number of debuting timepieces that eschewed traditional dials in favour of open-worked fascias. Pre-eminent among these was <u><a href="https://www.piaget.com/">Piaget’s</a></u> <em>Altiplano Ultimate Automatic 910P</em> – the very last word in ultra-thin wrist regalia. The total depth of its face, movement and case weighs in at just 4.3mm.</p>

<p>Never one be outdone, <u><a href="https://www.franckmuller.com/">Franck Muller’s</a></u> <em>Vanguard S6 Yachting</em> could be inadequately summed up as open-face styling-meets-open-sea readiness. This, of course, would not do justice to its fetching compass motifs, ocean-blue skeletonised dial and 18K rose gold Cintrée Curvex case.</p>
<p>For its own dalliance with all things dial-less, <u><a href="https://www.zenith-watches.com/en_en/">Zenith</a></u> chose to showcase its precision engineering prowess in the <em>Defy Zero G</em>, the perfect platform for its proprietary Gravity Control gyroscopic mount technology – a fiendishly innovative system that ensures the movement stays ever horizontal, negating the effects of gravity and delivering timekeeping of a seldom-sustained accuracy. Complex, yet avant garde, it’s unthinkable that any sector save haute horology could sponsor such a precept.</p>

<p>Perhaps the most visually striking piece on display at Salon de TE, though, was <u><a href="https://www.jacobandco.com/">Jacob &amp; Co.</a></u>’s <em>Astronomia Solar Planets</em>. Not content with mere earthly glory, the venerable Swiss marque set its sights on winning the space race by transforming this timepiece’s dial into a self-contained solar system.</p>

<p>Mounted on a fastidiously fashioned differential gear system, the hour-and-minute dial (together with a bejewelled mini-Earth and seven precious stone planets) all rotate around a central 1.5 carat citrine sun. Coming complete – but, of course – with a gravitational double-axis tourbillon, this out-of-this-world wristwatch is the finest fusion of haute joaillerie and high-end horology you are likely to find on any class M planet.</p>
<p>From the masterfully minimalist to the intergalactically innovative, this year’s Salon de TE offered visitors an illuminating introduction to all the very finest in the world of contemporary chronometers. Should you have been foolhardy enough to have failed to pop in, take heart from the fact that the 2019 event is but 11 months away. Perhaps best make a note.</p>
