Samsung launches its new frameless television – Q950TS TV

On November 7th, Samsung unveiled a folding smartphone they had been teasing for months&#8230;kind of. At a special show during Samsung&#8217;s annual developer conference, the new Galaxy F appeared in extremely dim light, but what the captive audience could see was that the slick new interface – designed with the help of Google – morphed as if by magic from a 4.6-inch smartphone into a 7.3-inch tablet, and then back again.

Ok. So it wasn’t magic. It’s Samsung’s new folding smartphone technology, but honestly it’s pretty close. The folding smartphone phone was first teased in 2014 with a video in which a man gets up to leave a coffee shop, snappily folding his tablet into something more smartphone-sized, impressing an attractive woman positioned conveniently nearby . I mean what are the odds? The tantalising teaser got plenty of attention, but unfortunately it seemed Samsung jumped the gun, and after many vague comments to the press and delays to launch dates, the phone was rumoured to be nothing more than vapourware. But Samsung put those rumours to rest with their soft launch, once again igniting the fires of fascination around foldable phones.

Not everyone was impressed though. The company’s decision to reveal the new handset in dim light drew some suspicion because while the screen was clearly visible, the actual handset is not. In fact, it raised more questions than answers. How slim will the folded phone be? How well-protected will the internal screen be from accidents? Tech buffs also speculated that the components that create the foldable element of the phone probably take up a large amount of hardware space, which could cast aspersions on the phone&#8217;s battery life – likely the reason why the handset will not be supporting 5G.
But as well as the tongue-wagging, there were many adulatory cheers, and market experts are looking wider than just Samsung. Not only is the breakthrough in technology remarkable, the pro-active move is forcing other smartphone companies to innovate their own products in order to compete. Samsung, themselves, have already filed a patent for a second, improved phone-to-tablet folding device.

Huawei, the world&#8217;s second largest tech giant after Samsung, are also teasing their new folding smartphone for launch at MWC 2019 in late February and say that, unlike the Galaxy F, their product will be supporting 5G. This could be the final push Huawei need to expand beyond the Asian market, after their attempts to move into the USA were stymied by the trade war being waged by the Trump administration and other foreign market&#8217;s concerns over security. If Huawei can continue their trend of producing similar products for significantly lower prices then they might just manage to bust out of their Asian corner.

Samsung has just launched yet another flagship model from its stables – the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. But you’d be forgiven if, at first glance, you mistake the two flagship models to be last year’s S8 and S8+.
In terms of appearance, Samsung has stuck to its tried and tested rounded-edge structure, with the only difference being in the placement of the finger reader. The Korean phone-maker seems to have paid heed to the criticism regarding the off-centre finger reader location on its previous models, and has placed the finger reader at the centre this time, right below the rear-view camera.
That brings us to the most wow-worthy feature of Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, the camera with its ‘dual aperture’ system that allows the phones to swap between two apertures: f/1.5 or f/2.4.
According to Samsung, this simulates the functions of the human eye: our pupils dilate in response to light changes; similarly, the camera’s aperture expands or contracts depending on the light conditions in which a shot is being taken.
In addition, the S9+ now boasts two rear cameras, following Samsung Note 8. The effects help control the depth of field of a photo, with sharp objects in the foreground and a blurred background.
All this ‘heavy lifting’ is managed internally by power-packed processors which have undergone an upgrade from the previous models. The S9 and S9+ runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 in the US and China and on Exynos 9810 for the rest of the world. The RAM has also been beefed up to 6GB.
After coming under the scanner for poor battery life for some of its models, the brand has painstakingly worked on this particular area, so it’s no surprise that both the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ have improved battery lives, even more than the already-satisfactory S8 models.
It’s clear that Samsung is pitting its flagship models against the supposedly best-in-class iPhone X; it waits to be seen if it’s going to deliver as much as it promises.

The must-awaited Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2018 gave techies an exclusive preview of what luxury electronic brands are cooking up for the rest of the year. Among the cutting-edge products and concept designs on display was a new TV from <a href="http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/">Samsung</a> innocuously named ‘The Wall’.
At 146 inches, The Wall isn’t the biggest TV on the market by any stretch. That particular accolade belongs to a 370-inch custom-made behemoth named The Zeus from British manufacturer <a href="http://titanscreens.com/">Titan Screens</a>.

So what makes this TV so special then? Well, for starters, it is the world’s first modular television model. The screen is actually made up of individual rimless 9.37-inch screen modules that fit seamlessly together. This is an exciting advancement because that means screens can be customised to a buyer’s exact specifications.
The Wall is also equipped with Samsung’s latest MicroLED technology. These micro LEDs are much smaller than any LED currently on the market. They serve as their own source of light, which means higher resolution without the need for backlights or colour filters. Translation: it promises the ultimate viewing experience.
Despite its immense size, The Wall was designed to be something of a chameleon. It can be used as simple wallpaper (although this seems like a bit of a waste considering it will surely have a hefty price tag), act as a ‘window’, or even have just a part of its display act as a TV. Last year, trusted tech brands such as Apple and Sony hoped their respective smart watches would woo consumers. Instead, they faced a widespread drop in wearable tech sales and speculation over whether smart watches were merely a passing fad. But with new products on the horizon, will 2017 be the year that buyers finally put their faith in intelligent wrist assistants? That remains to be seen, but Samsung has certainly made a convincing case with its newest release, the Gear S3.
The watch, equipped with a built-in speaker, allows users to make or answer calls even if they’ve left their smart phones at home. Athletes may take interest in another incorporated feature, a GPS system. This provides the navigational guidance that many have come to rely on while rendering it wholly unnecessary to lug around a phone in a backpack or tummy-hugging exercise belt.

To answer calls, read messages and open apps, one merely has to turn the Gear S3’s bezel. The watch also includes an altimeter, barometer and speedometer, as well as a heart rate sensor. Perhaps the most impressive feature, though, is the fact that the battery lasts about four days, or so Samsung says.
For those who still want to keep their phone on hand, especially for lengthy calls that could be cumbersome on a watch, fear not – the device is compatible with smart phones that run on Android 4.4 and higher.

If you’re bored of the reality of everyday life or just want to get away from the stress of work/family then there has never been a better time to “escape”, with the help of a virtual reality (VR) headset. 
Simply strap on a headset and immerse yourself in a reality so real you actually feel like you are walking on Mars or enjoying a spot of fishing on a quiet river.
And the majority of the big technology companies &#8212; Google, Facebook, Sony, Samsung and HTC &#8212; have launched or are about to launch a VR headset in Hong Kong, so there are plenty of options.
But what exactly is virtual reality?
Well, a VR headset aims to create a 3D reality in which you can walk around and interact with the environment without the sort of boundaries you’d get from a TV or computer.
For the headset to work you will need a PC, console or smartphone to run the app or game, and an input &#8212; head tracking, controllers, hand tracking, voice, on-device buttons or trackpads. Video is sent to the headset from the PC, console or smartphone.
VR Headsets come with different games and features. For example, Sony’s VR headset is linked to its PlayStation 4 and comes with about 30-40 games.
And remember, if you do buy a VR headset, don’t fall off the balcony at home exploring Mars.
