Sony’s new Z9G 8K HDR TV redefines the luxury viewing experience

<a href="https://www.sony.net/">Sony</a> first launched <a href="http://aibo.sony.jp/en/">Aibo</a>, the first truly AI robotic pet, on the market back in 1999. And the world promptly fell in love with the slightly clumsy but extremely kawaii canine. Nearly 20 years later, the Japanese electronics giant has resurrected this fan favourite.

On the surface, the latest Aibo model has the self-same puppy-dog cuteness that made it such a big hit in the first place. But beneath its adorable exterior lies some truly amazing technological engineering.
Unlike its rather clunky predecessor, the new model boasts seamless movement thanks to 22 ultra compact axes in its ‘joints’. Meanwhile, simultaneous location and mapping technology in addition to sound and image sensors allow Aibo to navigate and interact with its surroundings.

Sony also claims this robotic dog will evolve over time, with deep learning algorithms helping it to ‘learn’ commands, praises, caresses, and even what behaviour makes its owners happy. What’s more, its AI programming will allow this electronic canine to differentiate between different owners, forming unique bonds with each one!

So far, Aibo is only available to order within Japan, but Sony says it’s working on expanding the sale radius. With a price tag of US$1,700, this robotic pet doesn’t come cheap, but it may just be the ideal low-maintenance canine companion for Hong Kong’s time-pressed professionals!

Aibo Resurrected: Sony’s robot dog is back and better than ever

The world’s largest photography competition, the Sony World Photography Awards, has announced the winners of its Open categories and National categories for 2017. 
Over 227,596 entries from 183 countries entered the competition.
The National category is open to photographers of all abilities and aims to find the best single photograph taken by a local photographer in 65 countries.
The judges picked The Opposite by Tomy Tong Chun Kin as the winner of the Hong Kong National Award.
The photo is a delicate and original shot taken for a student fashion styling project in January 2016.
&#8220;This achievement is really special to me because it has given me recognition. Thank you for all the support from my family and friends. Photography is my whole life,&#8221; said Tomy.
Second place went to K.W Hon’s photo Dance, while Wilson Lee’s Moonlight finished third.

Last year, trusted tech brands such as Apple and Sony hoped their respective smart watches would woo consumers. Instead, they faced a widespread drop in wearable tech sales and speculation over whether smart watches were merely a passing fad. But with new products on the horizon, will 2017 be the year that buyers finally put their faith in intelligent wrist assistants? That remains to be seen, but Samsung has certainly made a convincing case with its newest release, the Gear S3.
The watch, equipped with a built-in speaker, allows users to make or answer calls even if they’ve left their smart phones at home. Athletes may take interest in another incorporated feature, a GPS system. This provides the navigational guidance that many have come to rely on while rendering it wholly unnecessary to lug around a phone in a backpack or tummy-hugging exercise belt.

To answer calls, read messages and open apps, one merely has to turn the Gear S3’s bezel. The watch also includes an altimeter, barometer and speedometer, as well as a heart rate sensor. Perhaps the most impressive feature, though, is the fact that the battery lasts about four days, or so Samsung says.
For those who still want to keep their phone on hand, especially for lengthy calls that could be cumbersome on a watch, fear not – the device is compatible with smart phones that run on Android 4.4 and higher.

The photos of a peacock in full bloom, an elephant riding a penny farthing and a man swimming are among the first selection of entries to the Sony World Photography Awards, the world’s largest photography competition.
If these photos light a creative spark inside you, photo entries for the 2017 competition close on 5 January and 10 January.

The camera features a 42MP BSI CMOS full frame sensor – an asset more commonly associated with DSLRs. It also boasts a Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm F/2 lens with hybrid autofocus system, a pop-up 2.36M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and Wi-Fi connectivity, all housed in an elegant and compact package weighing a mere 500 grams. Indeed, it is impressive just how much cutting-edge technology Sony has managed to squeeze into the RX1R II. 
While all this technology does not come cheap, it is comparitively more reasonably priced than its Leica equivalent, while also supposedly offering better functionality and performance. For those serious about their photography, but unwilling to lug a DSLR and a host of accessories around, the RX1R II may well have everything you need to get that perfect shot.

The king of compact cameras

If you’re bored of the reality of everyday life or just want to get away from the stress of work/family then there has never been a better time to “escape”, with the help of a virtual reality (VR) headset. 
Simply strap on a headset and immerse yourself in a reality so real you actually feel like you are walking on Mars or enjoying a spot of fishing on a quiet river.
And the majority of the big technology companies &#8212; Google, Facebook, Sony, Samsung and HTC &#8212; have launched or are about to launch a VR headset in Hong Kong, so there are plenty of options.
But what exactly is virtual reality?
Well, a VR headset aims to create a 3D reality in which you can walk around and interact with the environment without the sort of boundaries you’d get from a TV or computer.
For the headset to work you will need a PC, console or smartphone to run the app or game, and an input &#8212; head tracking, controllers, hand tracking, voice, on-device buttons or trackpads. Video is sent to the headset from the PC, console or smartphone.
VR Headsets come with different games and features. For example, Sony’s VR headset is linked to its PlayStation 4 and comes with about 30-40 games.
And remember, if you do buy a VR headset, don’t fall off the balcony at home exploring Mars.
